We’re excited to launch a new video series from the Rural Social Work Institute: Past Institutes Recollection, where we revisit the people and places that have helped shape our history.

In our first video, Sam Hickman interviews Scott Sorensen, host of the 29th Annual National Institute on Social Work and Human Services in Rural Areas, held July 28–31, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Scott shares stories of planning the event, visiting rural service providers during pre-conference tours, and organizing memorable cultural excursions—from a Dutch oven dinner at This Is the Place State Park to heartfelt moments at the Utah Pride Center.

The conference, themed “Human Services for Rural Communities in the 21st Century,” brought together people, ideas, and shared experiences that continue to resonate today.

🎬 Watch the full conversation and take a walk down memory lane with us as we celebrate the legacy of rural social work.
